The Willy Wonka Candy Challenge
Scenario - The Willy Wonka Candy Company/Nestle has been hired by Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema to produce a promotional candy for the theatrical release of Journey to the Center of the Earth III. Your division within the candy company has been assigned to the project and you are to create a candy that resembles the structure of the earth. Your division is also responsible for creating a wrapper that will serve as a marketing and advertising tool. In addition, the wrapper will need to explain the relationship between the candy parts and how it relates to the structure of the earth.

Part 1: Research
Below are resources that you can use to help you develop an understanding of the layers of the Earth.
Part 2: Vocabulary and Model
Brainstorm a list of key vocabulary words and their meaning. Include a sketch of a model of the structure of the earth and label each part.
Part 3: Product Development
Reflect on the densities of each layer of the Earth and determine candies that would represent each layer.
Part 4: Wrapper
Develop a wrapper that will serve as a promotional, marketing and educational tool. Some things to mention on the wrapper include:
- Movie title
- Willy Wonka Candy Company
- Movie release date
- Model of the structure of the earth
- What each layer of the earth is and the candy that is used to represent it
Part 5: Presentation/Share
Divide your presentation into two halves. One half should show your candy idea (Part 3) and the other half should show your plan for the wrapper (Part 4). Take a picture of the artifact and attach to your portfolio.
